Bark Back

Ingredients

Dogs enrich our lives every day. They protect us, comfort us, play with us, and love us. They warm our hearts and our laps. And, as every died-in-the-wool dog-lover knows, there’s no better cure for a hard day at work than a wagging tail and a wet nose. They do so much for us just by their mere presence that, naturally, we want to do the best we can for them in return. That's why we spend countless hours checking ingredients and researching sources (and, of course, baking!) to make sure we’re providing only all-natural, wholesome, human-grade treats and food.

Take a look at our usual suspects (click on an ingredient to find out more):

Peanut Butter

The peanut butter used in all of our products is made of 100% peanuts. Nothing else. No extra sweeteners, preservatives or anything unnatural. Aside from protein, Peanut Butter is a great source of Vitamin E, which is beneficial for preventing diseases, and of Biotin (Vitamin H), which is said to be helpful for thin, splitting nails and good for the coat. So, if your pooch’s pelt is lacking in luster, the naturally occurring oils found in peanut butter will have him looking like a million barks.

Carob

Known well by human health food enthusiasts for it’s myriad of benefits and it’s rich flavor, carob has nothing to do with chocolate except for it’s taste. Luckily for dogs, our “super chocolate” is just as good for them! Carob contains as much vitamin B1 as asparagus or strawberries, the same amount of niacin as lima beans, lentils or peas, and more vitamin A than eggplant, asparagus and beets. It's also high in vitamin B2, calcium, magnesium and iron. Aside from all the vitamins and minerals, Carob has long been used medicinally for both humans and livestock as a “superfood” for the anorexic and as a cure for stomach and intestinal problems.

Canola Oil

Canola Oil's unique ratio of almost 2 to 1 Omega-6 to Omega-3 makes it the richest vegetable oil source of essential fatty acids. (In comparison, corn oil is approximately 55 to 1 Omega-6 to Omega-3.) By giving Canola Oil to your canine you can help to increase circulation, reduce joint tenderness and maintain a healthy immune system. Plus, it's “terrier”ific for maintaining healthy skin and coat. Food products manufactured with Canola Oil have higher levels of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, and significantly lower levels of saturated and trans fatty acids than more traditional products.

Garlic

Just a little bit of garlic goes a long way . . . not just on breath, but nutritionally as well! Garlic is an effective antibiotic, anti-fungal and anti-viral agent. In fact, since garlic increases the body's resistance to infection and stress, just adding a little garlic to your pup's grub is sure to keep the tail wagging for years to come. Garlic is also beneficial in preventing heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and improving the immune system.

Whole Wheat

Whole grains like Wheat are rich in dietary fiber, antioxidants, protein, dietary minerals (including magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and selenium) and vitamins (including niacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin E). Though many of us have or know a pooch with wheat allergies, in our research, we’ve found that many times the quality of the Wheat is the culprit – poor quality Wheat that’s been processed and mixed with unnatural preservatives and additives. We use 100% all-natural Wheat, no additives, no preservatives and less allergies!

Apples

Apples are high in Vitamin C as well as a host of other antioxidant compounds. The fiber content, while less than in most other fruits, helps regulate bowel movements. Apples also help in controlling cholesterol because they contain no cholesterol and plenty of fiber (which helps reduces cholesterol by preventing reabsorption). We use only 100% all-natural Washington Applesauce made only with Washington Apples, that’s it!

Egg

The Egg is a great natural source for a large supply of proteins and provides significant amounts of several vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, choline, iron, calcium, phosphorus and potassium. The Egg is also one of the few foods that naturally contains vitamin D.

Milk

Milk contains numerous vitamins and minerals like Vitamins D and K, which are essential for bone health. It is also rich in Vitamin B12, potassium, magnesium and riboflavin, which promote cardiovascular health and energy production. Biotin and pantothenic acid are B vitamins found in milk that are also important for energy production.

Whey Protein

Whey Protein contains high levels of amino acids—the building blocks for protein. It’s quite basically fuel for your dog.

Honey

When we feel like a cake or cookie needs a bit of sweetness, we reach for all-natural clover honey (after we’re done making our tea, that is). Honey is chock-full of vitamins and minerals like B6, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc.

Molasses

Aside from a wonderful vegan sweetener, molasses adds richness and flavor to many of our hard-baked cookies. Molasses is a great source for iron, copper, manganese, potassium and magnesium.
